Weird
Economics!
A comprehensive space to learn more about the economy,
and have fun in the process.
WeirdEcon: An Introduction
Hi there! My name is Jack, and I’m here to serve as your official guide to the WeirdEcon blog.
My plan for this blog is dual-tiered in approach:
1. I want to spread knowledge about economic concepts and theories in the form of lessons and concept spotlight blogs.
2. I seek to entertain the layman with genuinely interesting information related to economics through a series of WeirdEcon serial blog posts.
From Adam Smith’s remarkably short attention span to Karl Marx’s habit of drunken dueling, there’s no shortage of fun facts and wild stories we can inject into our shared love for economics.
Contrary to what you may have heard, ECONOMICS IS REALLY COOL!
Well, sort of. As they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
If you aren’t fully invested, economics can really bore you to death. Admittedly, the subject matter in the case of economics is a tad more complex than other areas of business and sociological studies.
Nevertheless, understanding the economy is going to become increasingly important as the economy continues to progress and change. Some rising themes that are becoming more relevant to the field of economics include:
– Automation
– Big Data Analytics
– Income Inequality
– Globalization and the Nationalist Response
– Population Health
– Foreign Trade and Immigration
And many, many, many others. It is simply fascinating how economics manages to persist as a force in human behavior.
Now, I’m sure there are plenty of folks out there who see the usefulness or importance of economics, but there are certainly plenty of gaps to bridge before diving in head first.
There are a number of obstacles to learning about economics, including but not limited to:
- Difficult subject matter.
- Relatively boring (compared to binge-watching 90 Day Fiance on Hulu)
- Too time-consuming.
- Not relatable.
In starting this blog, I aim to address every obstacle that stands between you and a nuanced understanding of the economy we all participate in. And along the way, you may just find yourself having fun reading about economic concepts and all the interesting factoids you encounter on this blog. See you there!
